I hope to test mine some other family members' DNA next year, and, even though I am very familiar with genetics and biology, I think it will help me figure out my results faster seeing the way you break it down the data provided to you from 23andme.Brittany Jenkinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03406340100289635981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6592153507467992076.post-54437953380209649622015-07-19T00:47:21.239-07:002015-07-19T00:47:21.239-07:00When I was just curious, I was comparing what our ...When I was just curious, I was comparing what our mother had (center portion) out of her two chromosomes comparing it to my brother Travis (indicated by the initial "T") and I, seeing what we inherited from her.

http://i58.tinypic.com/2hnq1cx.jpg

To make it more reliable, I got rid of the sub-regions bringing it to its more general classification. Had I not done that, you would see different colors of blues and oranges. And I showed where my brother & I matched and indicated where the crossovers were. The dotted lines were possible crossovers, I couldn't tell for sure since my mother didn't have her data full phased with at least one parent.

Then that gave me the idea to focus on figuring out who could've been the European (or of European descent) ancestors that gave my mother her odd 20% European vs. 80% East Asian/Oceanian (combined). And I started with the X path, since my mother had no European segments in her X, and she told me that she met her biological father once, and he was a pure Hawaiian man, plus the fact that our mtDNA haplogroup is a subgroup of the Polynesian motif - B4a1a1 which exists only among Polynesians, I used all those clues to construct a possible way how the European entered into my mother's lines.

http://i59.tinypic.com/5lcpr9.jpg

It got more elaborate and was able to more precise, or a possible scenario

http://i62.tinypic.com/352kagz.jpg

Shortly after creating that, I found through triangulation a common ancestor between two people's trees. I had nothing to go on myself since my mother was adopted. After looking for descendants, I tried to follow my chart to some extent, but to be sure I got as many descendants and branches that I could until I found the right family. Then I went back after learning of their ancestries and constructed the final outcome and recalculated the percentages of European to EA/Oceanian and was surprised at how accurate it was. So my prediction wasn't that far off and it helped me a lot!

http://i62.tinypic.com/i6m9s6.jpgKalanihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05445262386931098902noreply@blogger.com
